===== MATLAB Alternatives =====

The course uses MATLAB for programming exercises - but this is expensive so I want to find alternatives. [[http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/|Octave]] was mentioned on the Coursera forum, and a quick Google revealed [[http://freemat.sourceforge.net/|FreeMat]]. One [[http://amca01.wordpress.com/2011/08/31/the-best-matlab-alternative/|blog]] also suggested [[http://www.scilab.org/|Scilab]].

The blog mentioned falls in favour of GUI Octave - [[coursera:octave|so I'll pursue that option initially...]]
